“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Hello, and welcome to my page! My name is Anna Leese, and I’m happy that you’re here.

There is a common misconception that to attend therapy, someone needs to have experienced a big, stressful, or negative life change or event. I believe that therapy can be beneficial to everyone regardless of whether something specific or stressful has occurred in their life. As a therapist, my goal is to establish a safe and authentic connection with my clients so that they feel seen, heard, and validated during their time with me. No matter what my clients’ goals for therapy are, I am here to listen actively, empathize deeply, and create a healing space in which they feel empowered.

I enjoy working with adults 18+ on a variety of different issues. I do not believe in the idea of an “ideal client” and instead try to meet everyone where they are and where I am needed. Interests of mine include working with anxiety, depression, interpersonal struggles, low self-esteem, stress management, and childhood and adulthood wounds. Person-centered therapy is the foundation of my therapeutic approach. Strengths-based practices and Internal Family Systems (IFS)-informed techniques are additional skills that I utilize in my practice. I also love engaging in inner child work with my clients and collaborating to heal past wounds that may be continuing to impact the present.

Therapy has been immensely helpful in my own journey, so I understand just how powerful and restorative the therapeutic process can be. Being able to join clients on their journeys to integrated health and wellness is an honor and a privilege. I am grateful that I can provide support during times of stress and vulnerability. I believe that every client has the answers and solutions they need within themselves; therapy is simply a matter of helping my clients to discover and access their inner wisdom.

Therapy will not always be a comfortable or an easy process. Engaging in this work requires clients to recognize, acknowledge, and grapple with aspects of themselves and their lives that cause them sorrow and discomfort. Even so, I am here to support clients in both the joyful and the difficult moments so that they can learn, grow, and use skills they need to make lasting and positive changes in their lives.

I earned a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Winthrop University in 2022 and am a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (License #A17911) in the state of North Carolina. I utilize unconditional positive regard, empathy, and active listening while challenging clients whenever needed.
